Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
This visa allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.
You must be invited to apply for this visa.
In order to be considered for an invitation, you must meet the points-test. Points are awarded for age, skills, qualifications and work experience, amongst other criteria.
Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
This visa is the same as the Skilled visa above, however you must be nominated by a state or territory government.
Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)
This visa allows skilled workers to live and work in specified regional areas in Australia for up to four years.
You must be invited to apply for this visa.
In order to be considered for an invitation, you must meet the points-test. Points are awarded for things like age, skills, qualifications and work experience.
In addition, you must be sponsored by an eligible family member, or nominated by a state or territory government.
